Heading to PDC next month for a week. I'm staying at the Reef Playacar. Any suggestions about the area? I have been to Cozumel before but not on the mainland. I'll be diving Wrecks, Reefs and Cenotes. I've been lurking here for 3 years off and on under an old user name so............Hello.

If you havent dove Cenote Angelita before I would look into it. Its an awesome sinkhole that goes from fresh water to a thin layer of hydrogen sulphide (???) to salt water. Its an amazing dive.

Great place!
I stayed at The Reef Playacar in January 2008. They have a full dive shop onsite, run by a very cute lady named Laura. ;)

My dive buddy and I actually took our AOW course there, while another friend and his son did their OW course. There's a good sized wreck called the Mama Vina, in about 100' of water, not too far from the beach. And of course some beautiful reefs.
We had originally booked our AOW through a LDS in PDC, but negotiated a better deal with The Reef.

Enjoy! :cool2:

You definitely have to dive the cenotes. No other place in the world offers it like the Riviera Maya. So you are from Denver huh, what part? My family and I are from Denver as well, Westminster, I actually go to Regis University. My brother, father, and I live down here and own a dive shop call Geofish. You should stop by it is always nice to meet a person from our neck of the woods. With this being your first time here in Playa you are going to love it. Also the diving is really amazing right now! Well hope to meet you when you come down, safe travels and happy diving.

I am definitely diving Cenotes. A wreck and reefs. I enjoy the Palancar but have not been to the Cenotes. Looking forward to it.

The mainland's claim to diving fame are the cenotes. Other tips, it is a long day to go to Chichen Itza but worth it if you like ruins. Your mouth will love you if you eat at El Fogon, HC Monterrey or get some shrimp tacos at El Oasis. Find a nice bar on 5th Ave to sit and watch all the people go by and always respond to offers for information and 'deals' with "No Gracias".

I hope to stop by while I'm there. Thanks for the heads-up. :cool2: We lived in NW Denver for years but are now in Greenwood Village. What street is your dive shop on?

definitely take some time and visit the Mayan ruins. You can do Coba in an afternoon after diving. Highly recommended! And you will need a full day to do Chichen Itza but it is also an incredible experience. A day or two diving the cenotes are also something you won't get anywhere else in the world.
