Hello

I am planning on going to the Baja peninsula in December and I am wondering what sort of places and shops to go to for some diving? I am a Dive Master, but, I am not looking to do anything too crazy. Price is always a consideration.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Hello,

Baja is home to an immense variety of species ranging from tropical creatures in the south to cold water ones in the north. Among the numerous dive sites, which are suitable for divers of all levels, the most popular include Los Islotes ( part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve), known for its sea lion rookery and big fish; Salvatierra, a wreck that has been taken over by reef fish and large groupers; alsoFang Ming, Neptune Finger and others. You can view a fuller list here.

Also, there is a number of dive centres in the area. Prices are really different and can cater for any budget.

we had a good time with dolphin dive baja. Rafa is a good divemaster. We stayed at La Mision. Shop is around the corner from the hotel. Food is good and cheap.

There is a Mexico Forum... you should post there to get more responses.

My girlfriend and I had a similar experience in Loreto with Dolphin Dive Baja. It felt like diving with friends after the first day. Lots to see there. I'll go back.

My wife and I just got back from Baja yesterday. I will post a detailed trip report here in the next few days but here's the gist.

Cabo Pulmo (stayed at Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort and dove with their house shop) - better viz, more current, slightly warmer, very short boat rides to dive sites, flat seas, very little to do in the village, cheapest option
La Paz (stayed at a B&B, dove with Fun Baja) - viz not as good as CP, very little current, boat rides are significantly longer, lot more chop and swell at sea, the city is great with lots of restaurants, cafes, etc but doesn't feel insanely large or busy, slightly more expensive
Cabo San Lucas - did not go here but most expensive of the 3 and is a party town, most expensive.

CSL is closest to the SJD airport so the cost of getting to CP or LP might offset the higher price here.
