Hi,

I have been reading all the threads on regulators. I know this is a stupid question, but I haven't been diving in over 5 years and I am having a brain fart.

Don't laugh too hard but what is first stage and second stage???

I know I definitely need a refresher course. I am finally taking my gear in for service and looking for a dive shop to give me a refresher course.

Thanks for your help.

The first stage is the metal part that attaches directly to your tank. It bumps the high pressure inside the tank (3000 psi) into a relatively low pressure (about 140 psi) for the low pressure ports. The second stage is the part that goes in your mouth and drops the 140psi inside the hose down to ambient pressure so you can breathe.
