I think that orca was trying to intimidate him, otherwise he'd be dead.
 
This kinda goes back to the whole discussion(s) as to which animals are and are not well suited to captivity. I don't pretend to be an expert on that subject, but killer whales probably belong to the second group under most circumstances.

Shamu was a female and she died in the early '70s...

The orca in the news is a female named Kasatka.
