Well, they may not the great open-water, sea-life pictures that you are used to, but the do show salt-water aquatic life at its finest. The first pictures taken with my new camera, the Canon A620 using the WP-C90 housing, should be in the members gallery. They were taken in my pool and illustrate the very hard to find North Texas Suburban Mermaid in its natural habitat.:D

Again, thanks to everyone here for their advice, support and opinions...I think this may be one of the best diving purchases I've ever made. Next month, pictures and video from Roatan. I can't wait...is it June 17 yet?

Glad you had a chance to dive with your A620 Squashie...

But errm where are the pictures ;) ?

I am currently experiencing technical difficulties in posting the images to SB photo gallery...most likely operator error. :06: I will PM support and hopefully get this fixed ASAP. Your patients is appreciated.

Sorry for the delay, here are the first pictures I took with my new camera. The dreaded North Texas Suburban Mermaid, in her natural environment. :D

Great pictures Squashie and I agree with Leesa, the mermaid is a cutie :).

Now would be a great time for you, prior to your trip to Roatan.
To become acquainted with the features of your camera and practice photography on land.

Are you shooting in the auto or program modes?
Generally for underwater photography you'll get much better results when you're in control of the camera settings, i.e. controlling shutter speed or aperture opening.

Try the 'TV' and 'AV' modes before progressing to shooting in full manual mode..

Squashie,

Loved your Mermaid 3 shot... I have three of those critters in our backyard lagoon in North Texas as well... Mine only get out to hide from the twisters that occasionally pass by...

Keep your Mermaid 3 technique in mind when you go to Roatan... Shoot up, get close, and if you think you think you are close enough, get closer.... or so I was told in my only u/w lesson... Your picture sort of shows me what they must have been trying to tell me...

Try your manual and macro settings before you go. I'm still learning mine and really wish that I would have practiced more before my last two trips... If possible, learn to manually set your white balance now, especially if you shoot in jpg as you did these. Take something white on the dive with you to use as a reference (slate or white palm of a glove as examples).

Also, if you want a hot memory card for your camera, Competitive Camera in Dallas sells the SanDisk Extreme III in both 1 and 2 Gb. I buy all my Canon gear from them.

Enjoy Roatan! Looking forward to seeing your stills and video.

Jam, thanks for the comments, she is quite cute; but, I'm a little biased...yes I am in program mode currently...did not set white balance, therefore; her hair appears redder than it is. Will try other modes, both above and below the water as I prepare...

Does setting the "white balance" help in move mode? Any thoughts, comments would be appreciated.

Thanks again,

Squashie

Blue,

Don't remember the name of the card, but it is a 130X card from Costco. Cost about $80.00 for 2 Gb. The back-up is a 1 Gb, 60X card also from Costco that was just under $50.00 if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the other advice and comments. Yes, I hope to be able to be close, closer, closest to my intended target. The only things that worry me are Morays and Barracuda's...close does not seem the right idea with them, but I get braver with every encounter.

Good luck with your three...I hope the tornados keep clear of you just like I don't want them here...no mobil home so hopefully I'm safe. God hates those you know!:D
