Captain CaveMan:
well A dir rig is basicly the same a the Hog set up but DIR made there changes to it. . The HOG set up is one pice harness and and a 7ft long hose.
DIR makes you have the same gear as the next diver and if you dont YOU FAIL.
the only thing a DIR has is the BIG SHOWOFF \H/

A consistent configuration that meets the GUE guidelines is a DIR requirement, Big 'H' are not. In my DIR-f class, not one of the 6 students had any Halcyon gear. No effort was made to require 'H' gear, or to sell us any.

If you could demonstrate the skills you passed, if you needed more work you did not.

Tobin,

Stop confusing the issue with facts.

Barry,

Glad to hear you enjoyed the BP&W. There's a good chance you were overweighted. Most jacket BC's are inhereently positive by 3-5 lbs. If you only removed 5-6 lbs from your weight belt you could still have been 4-6 lbs overweighted. Being properly weighted is key to being comfortable at the surface in a BP&W. I recognize that getting your weight dialed in could be hard in a borrowed rig, but it's worth the effort.

Yes, I was definitely overweighted. I took off two kilos from my normal weighting but I think I could probably lose another two. Apart from anything else, when I let the air out the wing I sank like a stone, which is not good... still it always takes a while to get the weighting right in new gear.

Interesting to hear how you are getting on. I am at a simillar point to you. My BC is 10+ years old, thinking nitorx so new dive computer, etc.
Please update the thread with your progress.
Thanks
Well, I now own a shiny new DIR Zone backplate and wing. Hopefully I'll get the chance to try them out this Sunday, although it looks like my clubdive might be cancelled.:sad_2:

Too bad about the dive, try and find a pool, and get your weighting and trim dialed in. Worth the effort.
