Hi all, I just posted some of my first pics with the Canon S1 - comments gladly appreciated. Oh, they're in one of my galleries....

Essentially the outfit is the S1 and the WP-DC20 housing. No strobe

.

Only thing done to the pics were my best attempts at colour correction and mild sharpening.

Nice photos!

With a little more playing around you can get a touch more color into your pictures.

Leesa, you're right about the colour - I still need to learn the best ways to jack them up in photoshop, but I have downloaded a photshop action that does a better job that I have been able to do thus far (actually it does a GREAT job).

I think if the light is good enough, I'll refrain from using the internal flash and do everything later. I'd like to buy a strobe, but the wife won't let me :argue:

Anyway, thanks for the comment - still loads to learn....

may I ask what the action is?

something like a shell script (batch file) that executes ordinary photoshop commands and filters in some order - you could call it a macro with optional parameters...

It is a process by David Kusner aka "mandrake" on DigitalDiver.net.
I called it the "mandrake process" to give him credit for it. It's on my PT-010 site.
I think you will find that you won't have to use it if you use Manual White Balance on your camera then use "auto levels" in Photoshop afterwards.

Nice...I like the Shyshark!

These pictures were taken with Auto WB, and then I used "auto levels" which probably explains why I just couldn't get the blue quite right (I had forgotten all about WB :banghead:). My next dive is this weekend, I will take a white slate with me and test this, but given what I have seen I probably agree with you that manual WB and "auto levels" will do the trick.

In a way, I was a bit disconsolate at seeing that all my close up flash photos were marred by the shadow created by the lens port on the housing, but having seen how relatively easy it is to correct the colour casts, if the light is OK, I'll abandon the use of the flash altogether (where I dive the vis is generally pretty cr*p.... so backscatter is always going to be a problem).
