First Dive trip

Hello All,
I am going this weekend for classes and confined water dives... and want to do my open water dives in conjunction with a family vacation. Here's the question...

The only place I've ever been diving is Grand Cayman - Resort courses - pretty amazing. I'm looking at either Cayman Brac or Cozumel for a vacation / place to do my open water. Given that it is a family vacation, (2 kids, wife) anyone have an opinion as to which to choose? Or someplace else?

I'm making this decision based on no personal knowledge other than those resort dives in Cayman.

Thanks in advance for any wise advice.

I'll just say welcome to the board and not offer advice, as I haven't dove either of those. I can tell you that either one will be warmer than Northern California

Hey Jim,

Welcome to Scuba Board. This is a great place to get info and help. Enjoy!

I will take a shot at your question. You did not mention how old the kids are, so I will assume they are young. Both places you mention have great diving for all levels, so they cancel each other out.

As far as things to do, CB is pretty quiet and not much to do topside except beach, swimming, etc. So if you want quiet that's the ticket.

Coz is the opposite. Lots going on day or night. Water Park, Sub rides, Mayan ruins, drive to the east side for the wild waves (don't swim there). Lots of resturants and shopping also (be wary of the hawkers). So if you need things to do, this is your ticket.

Hands down. . .no brainer. . .Cozumel. Been to both and would not go back to the Brac with the kids and wife. Frankly, would not go back to Brac at all. If you arer considering one of the sister islands Little Cayman is the way to go. But if its not all about the diving (ie the wife and kids) then Coz is the better option.
