First dive trip in Indonesia - suggestions?

Hi all,

We're relatively new divers (40 dives) and taking our first dive trip to Indonesia mid-December for 10 days or so. Any suggestions on where to go? I like sponges, small fish, and would love try some muck diving as well. Not into wrecks. Kids are in there 20s. Live-aboards are out at this point. On the list is Raja Ampat, Pulau Siladen, Lembeh Strait, Bunaken area. We like something comfy and beautiful and a bit private.

(I picked Indonesia over the Philippines - sounds like a good move?)

Split the trip between Lembeh and Bunaken. Both can be done on the same trip quite easily, as they are both conveniently accessed from Manado airport. Both locations are suitable for relatively new divers. Raja Ampat is probably best enjoyed when you've got a bit more experience, as the currents can be a bit demanding.

Lembeh will give you an amazing intro to muck diving, and Bunaken has some fantastic wall dives with relatively tame currents. For a 10 day trip, I'd probably split it 4 days in Lembeh, 6 days in Bunaken. My experience is that people either love Lembeh, or they hate it.

Everyone will offer an opinion on resort options, but personally I like KBR in Lembeh (because that's where my favourite critter spotter guide happens to work), and I like to stay at Tasik Ria to dive Bunaken (it's a little more comfortable, and I like their house reef).
