Finally scratched the itch and went for the first dive of the season!

I am a wetsuit diver so I've been waiting for quite a while now. If anybody is familiar with it, I went to the Welland SCUBA Park. Bottom temp was about 6 degrees C (or 43 degrees F) at 35 feet. Got cold enough to call it quits after about 30 minutes.

Dove with a 7mm wetsuit and half way through the dive my boot slipped out from under the wetsuit and let a nice cold bit of water into my foot. Beyond that though the dive was awesome! Usually the SCUBA park has lots of open water training so if you get in late it will be all silty, but this dive was just me and my buddy.

With the season starting I've started building a Teardrop trailer for camping and diving around the States (probs Ohio, Michigan, New York, Penn, and Virginia), and Ontario.

Hopefully it will be done before full diving season has started, but if anybody is willing to show me their favorite dive site, I will be happy to come on down for a dive or two.

I might have basic training during one of the Summer months for the Naval Reserve unit I am joining, but other than that my weekends should be free all summer! Feel free to PM me :)

Cheers!

Yeah, it's been about 6C here too, but I'm lucky diving wet as I can at least do one quick dive in a day all winter wet since we live right on the ocean. Actually, I'm looking to buy a cheap used tear drop trailer for my summer trips to NY.

That would be an awesome road trip!

I saw pictures of a few teardrop trailers a couple of months ago and thought it would be a great little roadtrip camper, I drive a Mini Cooper so my RV options are limited.

Yeah, I haven't found one yet and leave June 23. Renting/cabins, etc. in NY area just getting too costly. Once I get one I have to space everything out--ei where the scuba crap goes among other junk. The shore diving in the NY area isn't very good. CT is shallow. Long Island has some OK spots if you can find (legal) parking. NJ has 2-3 shore spots "close" to NY and lots of traffic (well, not just NJ). Some good diving up at Cape Ann in Mass. and a place or two in Rhode Island.

Sounds like a lot of trouble to find a dive spot, I bet it is worth it though!

I am looking more at Western NY for diving, I am sure the Finger Lakes has something to offer. As well if I hit up Ohio there is the american side of Erie.

I dove in New England, NY and NJ for almost 30 years. There isn't much of shore diving in NY and NJ. New England is different however. Some of the best diving I have done was in Massachusetts (Cape Ann and Cape Cod) and Rhode Island (Newport, Jamestown and Narraganset). I also dove in New Hampshire and Maine and they are excellent. My favorites with the best diving from shore are Cape Ann and Newport/Jamestown/Narraganset. They offer so many dive sites with incredible marine life and underwater rock structures. I'd love to go back and dive there.
