Fins Straps: From bungee to Stainless steel

I've just broken a bungee fin strap and was considering going to stainless steel.

If my bungee strap is 36cm including buckles in length, should I get the same length in ss? Is it a direct conversion or is there some factor (stretchiness??) I don't know about which would need me to size up or down?
Buying online so can't try them on
Anyone done this?

Amazon is fairly friendly in their returns policy. If it does not fit, just return and replace your straps. I did this multiple times, especially now that I'm buying gear for grand kids. I got these in February, size L fits me well.

I had Mares rubber straps like these but gave them to my buddy/wife after couple years. The only reason I switched to steel is that steel straps are twice less expensive.

Just make bungee like Max showed or use 1/4” bungee from piranha.
