I was reading another post and there was talk about the flutter kick, a modified flutter kick and a bicycle kick.
I get the flutter kick and bicycle kick but what's the modified? My brain just isn't finding that in between kick.
Thanks

First, picture a prone trim in the water - not the roto-tiller trim (the head up, stand up sort of leaning forward diving) you see all over the place that thrusts water DOWN and stirs up junk.

So now you're prone, knees bent with bottom of your fins facing the sky.... a mod-flutter is a backward thrust one leg at a time, from the knee - sort of straightening your leg in a diliberate, short thrust, then bringing it back to the "rest" position. Repeat. Repeat. Visualize a boxer, with a jab, then return - jab, then return.

I'm a frog kicker, but I use mod flutter when in the kelp... much easier to get around in the stuff.

Save the flutter kick (full leg extension, from the hip, etc.) for swimming in the pool, or leave that one to the roto-tiller heads-up divers. Your mod-futter will make the rest of us diving behind you much happier!

PS: you should join us in Avalon this Sat or on Sat July 10.

Bicycle kick is good for aerobicizing your diving. Wait. . . why would you want to aerobicize your diving. Now that you know the bicycle kick, forget it!!

Thanks. I'm actually the wife-y of "dgallo" so we're going to be there for our AOW all weekend. I'll keep an eye out on the board to find out where and when you'll be diving. :)

This web site has some videos that will show you the different finning techniques.

Thanks, I can't get Quicktime here at work so I'll look at it when I get home.

to be totally honest and lame, I don't know exactly what my kick looks like right now. I'm still kind of new. I'll take a look at the videos and play in the pool this afternoon. I have Biofins and on their web site they say that a large sissor kick is inefficient for the fin and a small flutter kick works well. I'll play with a bunch of different kicks and let you know what I find. :)
