Hi jj,

I recently purchased a C-5060. You might want to download the C-5060 Reference Manual from Oly's site. The manual that ships with the camera is very basic. Here's the link http://tinyurl.com/6o6os.

I can't wait to give the camera a try in the water!

Make sure you post some pics when you get started.

Take care, Eric

The same PDF manual should be available on the CD that came with your camera.... :06:

Learn to use the WB early. I just got that figured out a few days ago and what a diff in my pics! 512 Cards are available at Costco for $80. Rip the frikkin lens cover off the PT 020, it likes to float up in front of the camera just as it goes off. Get a good strong retractor so you don't have to hang onto it all the time....I know i have more but thats all Im coming up with...Oh YA! Girls in bikinis like to pose underwater, just ask em nicely and most will love to do it.

I just got mine too, the exact same! I'll be watching this thread too and thanks for the pointers guys.

As regards camera settings I'd recommend getting used to manual (M) mode as it'll make your photos look a lot better and it's not at all hard to get used to. Don't use the programmed (P) mode as it rarely gets it right underwater. The best way to learn is take lots of shots at different settings and see which ones worked. You can then delete the duff ones

Set the camera to Autofocus but turn fulltime auto focus off, and set the focus to SPOT metering. Fulltime autofocus slows down the shutter time so you may not get your shot. Also get used to half depressing the shutter before shooting so the camera is in focus before you depress all the way. Not doing this often leads to blurring.

Turn on the option for the marine accessory when you're using the housing.

Set the ISO to 80 or 100 - AUTO tends to give grainy shots sometimes as it set s the ISO too high

Don't use the flash unless you're very close to the subject, otherwise you're likely to get a lot of back scatter. If you don't want bluey pictures and don't have a strobe play with the white balance feature, it can produce some decent enough results. If you do have a strobe set the flash as appropriate for your strobe

Turn off the auto reset of settings so that you don't have to remember to change everything every time you use the camera.

Get used to using the housing with the camera in it before your first dive. It'll be a lot easier to change settings if you know what you're doing rather than spending a dive trying to work it all out.

Have a look through these forums as well. A lot of what applies to the 5050 also applies to the 5060

Oh one more I forgot, set the photo quality to SHQ - that's good enough for most things you'll want to do.
You can use TIFF and RAW for higher quality that allows for better manipulation but they take up a lot of space and the write time is slow
