4 pairs of fins and I have finally found them..........I would not want to lead anyone in the wrong direction so this is if your diving Whites Rock boots size ten or the Altera size ten boots. I can say with out a doubt the Hollis Tech fins are a perfect match. I tried the boots with light weight socks all the way through some pretty thick protection and they fit great. The spring straps are very flexible yet keep the fin firmly in place.

Thanks Mike (Diverightinscuba)

How do the Hollis fins compare in stiffness to Jets? And what size of Jets would have a similar blade size? (I'd love to find a fin with a blade comparable to a size L Jet, that I could get my White's boots into.)

Hi,

I am a size 9 and half. So, I know I would use the size 10. Has anyone tried the Tusa Zoom fins with the Rock boots? What other fins work the boots?
thanks
Kurt

They seem to be a little softer than the XL Jets and a lot more flexible than the XL slip streams. The blade length is comparable to the XL Jets and longer than the XL Slipstreams. The foot pocket is very well designed and addresses a lot of complaints we hear about the Jets or the Slips.

I think you are going to have a tough time finding the larger foot pocket with the shorter blade like the L Jets have. The foot pocket on the Hollis are not only the perfect size but the design is far superior in my opinion. They have a really nice cut at the top so they will not push against the top of the foot like the Jets do, they have some flex to them also, They really feel like an old pair of shoes once on.

The spring straps are the best I have seen and believe me I have quite a few sets laying around here I have tried out. Prior to these I liked the XS Scuba straps but these are much better.

I don't have the fins in front of me right now but if memory serves with the design of the fin you might be able to trim some length off of them with out hurting them too much. I don't know if you could trim enough to get down to an L Jet because these are really long and the farther up the blade you go the stiffer it gets. I will look at them tonight and see if it is possible. I know at one point I was frustrated enough that I would have had no problem cutting and trimming to fit my needs if the foot pocket was right.

My wife has a similar problem, but perhaps a bit worse…or maybe not as bad.

She has a size 4.5 or 5 lady foot size and the smallest rock boot from DUI is a size 4 (not lady’s 4). The rock boot seems to fit her barely OK with large sock, but then she has a hard time using the size L Jet Fin. There is no way she would want to use my XL Jet Fin. The blade size is a huge jump.

Actually when I dive wet I have a choice of boots and fins and I prefer the size L over the XL blade for most diving.

So, the question is, have you found any of the Scubapro Jet Fin clones with a slightly larger foot pocket but the same size blade as the L? In her case just a tiny bit larger foot pockets would be a huge improvement.

She has tried other boot over her drysuit neoprene socks, but she does like the rock boots even do they are far from a perfect fit.

Thanks

We are thinking about trying the Slipstream (size M for her and L for me) for traveling to the Caribbean (warm water shorty wet suit) just because they are lighter, but I don’t know if the foot pocket is any different.

For reference, I know everyone says you can not stretch the foot pockets on the Jets and for the most part they are 100% correct. However with that said, I had some success with stretching the pockets in my XL Jets but I could not get them to the size I needed. I did make them "slightly" larger. If all she needs is a very little bit you might want to try it. I used a 1lb coffee can and "coaxed" it into the foot pocket and then used some plastic shims (The kind you can get at lowes or home depot for shimming doors). I hammered the shims between the coffee can and foot pocket to stretch them out more. I let them sit for a good week, before I started I put my boots into them and marked how far they would go, after I was done stretching them I could put them in approx. 1" more than I could before which was still not enough for my tastes but if you only need a little it might work. Worth a shot if you have the fins. It has been a little while since i did this and they have stayed the same since but I would recommend storing them with cans in them to keep them as desired.

Good Luck
Edit;one other thing I found helped a lot with getting my foot in and out of the Jets was to drill 2 - 1/4" holes at the bottom end of the foot pocket.

Luis, no, I haven't had any luck finding a fin with a bigger foot pocket. What I did do, though, was go to Chuck Taylor high top tennis shoes instead of rock boots -- they give similar support and have a good sole, but they WILL fit in the Jets, and I could buy them in a size that really fit properly over the drysuit socks. And they're cheap.

Hmmm, thanks for the report. I had planned on sending my suit back to swap out the rock boots after fighting the slop in my Turtles for two years. Maybe I'll give them a try.

Try XS Scuba Power fins. Size XL have foot pockets that were about 10% larger than my XL jet pockets, but the blades were smaller, closer to L jet blade. Perhaps size L would also have slightly larger pockets than L jets. Otherwise they are black rubber fins, similar to jets.
