Well today i completed finally the certification for SSI OW.. We dove both days at centenial beach in barrie,

Day one was a night mare for me.. although i did get throught it.. started off with the first dive was way over weighted.. just put on what i was told and was wearing 50 pounds on my weight belt well on our decent i deflated my BC and started to sink like a freaking rock.. by the time i started to compensate i had already hit bottom.. and in doing soo my weight belt slipped down and started a whole new fight.. had the instructors sitting on me while they tried to fix the issue.. trying not to let me bolt back up to the surface.. but that got under control, then doing the mask clearing the dam strap buckel broke on my brand new OMS mask :( Made life alittle difficult but got throught that, Well then on the second dive of day one we surfaced and didn't my BC comapart in the back the cumberband came off and i slipped out of the BC good thing i got ahold of the reg hose as i was going to drop like a rock!

Well, Went to replace my mask and was telling the shop owner what was going on and he could not belieave that this place i was taking the course was not offering me correct gear.. So he lent me his personal BC with 32 pounds of intergrated weights.. and a cumberband extenders to make it fit right! .. and then i only stuck 10 pounds on the weight belt and i must say.. yee haaa.. MUCH Better!

We did our second day today.. Chilly! .. the water was 10 degrees colder today! sitting at 48', But we got our last two dives in today and the instructor took my dive buddy and myself out to the morrison to check it out.. amazing!.. i had no clue it was soo big! :) first time seeing anyting under water :) but vis was great about 30 feet or soo.. lots of HUGE fish.. all in all amazing experience! ..

Soo.. :)

Who wants to help in the molding of this fine younge diver :)

Thanks
Michael

Congrats Michael on completing the course and getting your cert. You should get in as many dives as you can before it gets too cold. Then again, its a good excuse to head south for some tropical diving.

Congrats again on your cert. You earned it. ;)

Well i dont have much money to go out and buy gear :( But i would like to get one more dive in maybe next weekend.. was thinking the morrison again this time a chance to actually get in on it and get some good looks.. spend a few mins on it.. i will have to see if im going to have time.

Hey Michael,
Way to go on getting certified. Those are some pretty bad situations for your first dive, but it's a good thing you handled yourself well. Glad you enjoyed it though, keep it up. That's some good vis for the Morrison.

Yea thats what our instructor was saying.. He said it was most likly because of the fact the water was soo cold there really was no action going on in the bay.. only a couple of fishing boats.. and it was 10am in the morning.

i just got certified 3 weeks ago and all i can tell you is go rent equipment and go out a few more times and you will be addicted. i have been out three times and I am hooked. looking to work crazy OT at work to be able to buy a sweet package before spring!!!

i've gotta stop reading these posts!

i just finished my inclass/confined dives- next week- im dong the coki beack (st. thomas) open water referral dives for my cert!

i'm all antsy now to get geared up and neutrally buoyant! LOL

I'd encourage you to get as many dives in as soon as you can. It helps 'fix' the knowledge and skills in your head. Even after 4 years and nearly 150 dives, I'm a little rusty come spring. Now I try and get in the pool once a month all winter, just to keep in practice.

Just MAKE SURE you do a buoyancy check at the surface please :)

As a side question. Before your instructor had you put on 50lbs of weights, did he/she have you do a buoyancy check on the surface.

P.S. Congratulations and I hope you have fun diving.
