Tonight I finished my open water classes/pool sessions, It was awesome!!! We only had two things to cover the bcd remove and replace under water and a mini dive, the rest of the night was work on what you want. I had asked the instructor to show me the frog kick again and how to turn around without using my hands, it was surprisingly easy!!! So now I can do 360 all day long.

If anybody read my previous threads you might know I have been having ear problems, tonight I took it slow, probably equalized my ears 10-14 times before reaching the bottom of the pool, coming up I took as much time as I needed. I am happy to say the ears are mostly healed I believe as they do not feel plugged at all. Which is great news with my upcoming trip and checkout dives.

My future goals after the checkout dives will be to get some equipment together and just dive, I'll advance onto more courses later, but this summer will be just as much diving as possible, my first piece will probably be a DSS bp/w and some hog regs after that.

If I've been having this much fun in the pool I can't wait for the ocean!

Ocean is different, and in my experience, not much different. Where you want to go from here is up to what you want. You can just do 1,000 dives, go for AWO, get DM. Hey, everybody's different.

Congrats on finishing the pool work. It just gets better from there! btw, one of the biggest regrets that divers have is buying equipment too soon before you know what you like. Why not rent a number of different types of equipment from your local dive shop or borrow from your local dive club to try things out?

Happy diving!

I didn't think of dive clubs, I am sure there has to be one around me. And I'll have to see if my shop rents different brands, I believe all they rent are Halcyon Infinity bp/w, and jacket style for people that like jacket.

Well then you have two different styles of dive gear to rent, a jacketed BCD and a BP/W. I agree with NYCNaiad and save yourself a bunch of money and rent both styles for w while then purchase you gear.

Out of curiosity why do you want to go with a BP/W so soon?

It is what my shop teaches on so what I have learned on, I find it really comfortable, easy to setup, and you look pretty good wearing one underwater lol. As well I am pretty young and super interested in wrecks, so tech diving isn't in the immediate future but it is a goal of mine down the road; why not buy what I need now and will want in the future.

I'll see if they have other rentals, its possible they might rent diverite wings, I am really open to try any brand, I've been going to dive shops recently and playing with the BP/W they have on display, the hollis lx (i think is the name) was pretty comfortable, but the apex back inflate I played around with was way too bulky. With the apex I felt like it was the size of a mac truck in comparison to the hollis.

Congratulations on getting the pool work done - only a few OW check out dives to go and you are good to go. As TMHeimer says, OW is different to pool though mostly in a good way though (a hell of a lot more to see).

Glad to hear you were ok equalising this time - better to equalise too often than not enough.

Definitely sounds like the diving bug has bitten hard (as it did with me).

Good to see a shop teaching in them - they are better (so long as they are properly set up). I think more people would choose them if they had a chance to try them out instead of being stuffed into a jacket BCD for their OW course. They especially make sense if wreck diving is in your future.

Give Tobin (cool_hardware IIRC on the forum) a call - he is very well respected with regards to supplying BP&W.

Good stuff! glad to hear that you ears are ok. you are going to love Coz!

I think that you are doing the right thing with the BP/W especially since you have dove one before.
