Possible "dumb newbie" question here... Just got a new pair of Aeris Velocity fins in the mail. They arrived with a plastic "insert" in the foot pocket. Is this just to keep the pocket shaped properly during shipping and storage or would you actually use the fin with this insert in place under some circumstance? To add stiffness?

just keepin it's shape - of course if they fit better with the insert inside, no reason not to leave it there either ;)

Tim

P.S. welcome to Scubaboard too! It gets a bit sarcastic around here ... so enjoy the fun lol

Right, They are for shipping AND to be put back in the fins after diving. They will help to keep the foot pocket in shape. Do
take them out when you dive. It will not be easy to get the
fins off in the water if you leave them in.

Been there and done that.

You really only need to put them back into the fins for storage if they are left somewhere really hot.

just to maintain the shape, remove them before using. i made the mistake of forgetting to emove em before the dive.

i think mine lasted about 2 days diving before they disappeared...i ahve no idea where, and my fins are still fine

Thanks for the help folks - saved me some embarrassment!

You are most welcome! It's such a common mistake that it's the first thing many instructors look for when a student or newbie complains their feet hurt. Shoot! I did it after buying a new pair of fins given my first ones didn't have the insert and I never thought to look for them.

I have several of them rolling around in the back of my truck and at the bottom of some of gear bags. I never seem to remember to put them back in my fins after the first use and it doesn't seem to hurt the fins any.
