Has anyone checked out OceansForMe.com ?
I heard about them at a dive show, OWU last year. Its the official site of the Ocean Registry, where you can claim a spot in the ocean to dedicate to someone, and you get a nice certificate with your ocean parcel details. I bought a parcel of ocean to dedicate to my wife, and she loved it! Our parcel is in one of our favorite dive spots. I gave her this ocean parcel for our anniversay and she melted , really. She tells me it actually feels like that ocean spot is now ours forever, she thought it was really romantic and the most unique and thoughtful gift I ever gave her.
We love to scuba and have a lot of places in the ocean we'd like to put our name on! Just wondering what you all think of the idea. I am a fan. You can put a custom message into your ocean parcel, which shows up on the Google ocean map...and my wife found it which is a nice bonus surprise part of the gift. I am happy that there's a gift opportunity for us scuba ocean lovers like this! ( They are also a do good corporation that gives back to helping preserve the ocean. Like, they have the government's support NOAA and some strong ocean non profit partners like Sea Web and NMSFocean.org. )
Let me know what you think?

So, do I understand this correctly? I am supposed to pay someone for something that that person doesn't own for something I can't own either? And, that then allows the someone to put my message on my behalf at specific ocean coordinates that I or someone else can find with via a Google app?

What percentage of the price goes to non-profit organizations? Wouldn't it be much better to donate directly to the reef/ocean preservation organizations themselves?

The post by the OP is the first by this individual and smacks of a marketing ploy. On the other hand, maybe folks can exchange their named astronomical stars for their own personal piece of ocean. At least after they buy the Brooklyn Bridge.

There's some nice oil wells in the gulf of mexico, I'd like to claim.

I just thought it was a neat website and I am new to this scuba boad thing. I think if anyone is going to buy a star, why not buy a piece of ocean that actually has some meaning and if my gift actually gives back a little, then why not!
