I have the opportunity to buy a used Canon A540 and underwater housing. I am currently using a Sony DSCP10 with housing and Sea and Sea Y90 strobe. I would like to know if the Canon takes good underwater pictures and if this camera is a significant upgrade from the Sony. Any feedback on the performance of the Canon underwater and on land would be appreciated.

thanks

I like the Canon A series. I have a new 520 but haven't had it underwater yet. I also have serveral older A series and love them.

Yes, I think the Canon is an upgrade from the Sony. You might want to talk to Ryan at ryan@reefphotovideo.com about what you need to make the Sea & Sea strobe work with the Canon housing - I don't know anything about that.

You can also, I believe, add on wet mate lenses to give you even more control over macro and WA - again, talk to Ryan, he won't steer you wrong.
