Hey Form my Wife and daughter are going to be around Sydney for the first 3 weeks of Feb ( my Daughter will be attending the university of Wologong at the begining of the school year ).

I am looking for advice for dive operator for them to dive with when they are there they will need to rent equipment . Any thoughts would be great

Thanks in advance

I'm sure all the Sydney siders will give you the information on dive shops in Sydney. In the Wollongong area you could try United Divers:

United Divers home page

I haven't dived with them for a long time and I live on the north west coast of Australia now but when I first started diving in the early 1980's these were the guys I used to use all the time (I did the vast majority of my diving in the Wollongong area in those days). I believe the shop is still owned and managed by the same person (Leon Friend) that had it when they were my LDS.

Other areas to look at diving in the Wollongong area are around Bass Point/Shell Harbour/Kiama area. One dive shop I know of in the area is Liesure Coast Dive:

Leisure Coast Dive; Shellharbour Dive

If you want to travel a little bit further south the diving around Jervis Bay is very good.

sounds exciting for you!

Wollongong is about 90mins south from Sydney

in sydney, what you want to see will determine where you dive plus sydney is pretty big so where you will be basing yourself will help to give you a local dive shop

when in wollongong there is only Shell Harbour for me and i prefer Ron & Julie Duncan at Leisure Coast Dive

best thing about both areas is you have shore dive options to help keep the cost of diving down.

To tell the truth I have done very little diving in Wollongong, only the Bombo and Toothbrush Island.

However Shellharbour is another matter (about 30 mins south of Wollongong) ... did all my certifications there and quite a few dives afterwards ... Bass Point Reserve has a number of easy shore dives ... The Gravel Loader, The Gutter and Bushrangers Bay are the main ones. I think there are still two dive shops in Shellharbour ... we used to dive with Coastwide, but I believe the shop has changed hands a few times since the Greens left, so have no idea who or what they are like today. If Almity wife recommends Leisure Coast I would suggest dealing with them as she has never given me a bum steer.

Whatever your wife and daughter do I hope they have a safe enjoyable trip, and they can always log onto the Aussie section of scubaboard if they need advice.
