I'm going to be taking a trip to Fantasy Island with some friends in early April, and I've been thrilled to read about the improvements that the new management is making there. I did have a question about the cost/quality of equipment rental there. Does anyone know what kind of rates they charge for renting BCDs, regulators, etc? Also, what's the quality of the rental equipment like? I've seen rental dive gear that ranges from excellent to awful and I'm wondering what theirs is like. The resort's website doesn't have a lot of information, and it would be great if someone who'd been there could help me out. Thanks.

This is what I pulled off the web site as far as equipment rental cost:

Full Dive Rental Gear Setup Full rental gear setup including: BCD, Wetsuit, Regulator, Mask, Fins, SPG and Depth Gauge. USD 150.00 . (Note: They do rent computers, but I don't know the rate)

I have always brought my own gear so I haven't personally rented anything, but I do see a lot of divers using the rental gear and it seems to perform satisfactorily.

Out of curiosity where did you get that price quote from? I couldn't find it anywhere on the Fantasy Island website. When they say $150 is that per day? Sorry for what's probably a pretty basic question, I'm just trying to figure out the economics of buying some of my own gear.

We also take our own equipment so I can't help you on the cost, but I just finished a week at Fantasy Island and dove with a group that rented equipment. It looked very good, with the possible exception of the very small fins that one young woman needed. They looked like snorkeling fins, but the larger size fins looked good.

Another woman put her regulator in the rinse tank without a dust cover and they just changed it out for her. No one had any other equipment issues that I was aware of all week.

Had a great time and I am sure you will too.

That is for the week.....
Here is how to find it;
At the Fantasy Island Home page click Hotel Reservations--select dates you want to check rates for--select no. of people to a room and then click on check availability. When you get to that screen, select the box that says "book". It will then bring up a screen which will have a list of all the services available and the cost for each.....just exit at that point after checking on whatever you want to consider...you can do all of this without a problem, just don't check to finalize the booking

Well I'm glad to see there semm to be some reports of decent equipment at the rental office and I hope they will continue improving this with the new administration. :coffee: In 2006 when I went, the gear was... Pretty bad...:shocked2: Luckily things change!

@Cajun: next time you're there you should snap a few pics of the rental gear. I'm sure it would help people on this board when they have questions regarding this...:coffee:

@Cajun:

Thanks again for the information. It looks like FI might be working on a new web page to go with their new management, hopefully it'll be a little more helpful.
