I returned from Curacao last week after a 2 week stay there.

About 2 weeks ago I made a dive that I took to 170 feet. Stayed for only a few seconds at that depth and ascended slowly and carefully. No problem.

About 10 days afterwards I noticed what seemed to be a floater on my left eye which seemed to occur spontaneously. I just got back from the Eye doctor who diagnosed me with "vitreous and/or retinal detachment" and now I have to see a specialist.

Does anyone here think that the dive might have caused this problem?

Thanks,

Sy

It is unlikely that your dive caused this condition. Especially after a 10 day interval.

If your demographics include: over 45 years old and highly myopic (-4, -5 , -6, etc. diopter correction), then you are more prone to this sort of problem.

Go to the recent post here in Diving Medicine: Diving with "posterior vitreous separation"

The discussion will likely cover most of your questions and calm your fears.

Be sure to see the specialist.
