I'm a 46 year, healthy, female PADI divemaster living in The Netherlands. I hope to find a cause and solution to the following problem.
During dives I sometimes experience extreme vertigo. This is not depth related. But always when I ascend a few meters. For example from 20 to 18 or from 40 to 37 or from 10 to 7, etc. This has now being occuring since September last year. I have not been able to find any relationship with warm or cold water either - I dive in both.
I have never had problems clearing my ears. The only "complaint" I have is sometimes a "full feeling" in the right ear (no relationship found to diving). This, however, I've had for years - have seen the ENT about it several times but he cannot find any cause. It's a bit uncomfortable sometimes, but not painfull.
All my buddies know about the problem and we stay close together. When it occurs I give them a sign and they hold on to me until it passes (10 to 30 seconds a time). I'm used to it now and just ride it out - the first few times were a bit scary....
Any advice as to the cause and a solution would be grately appreciated!
