I'm brand new to underwater photography and I'm considering purchasing the housing for my Canon S400 digital. Does anybody know if there is a small external flash suitable to go with this camera and it's housing?

Hi Magnetite. welcome to the board! I've been using my S400 for about a year (unfortunately not improving that quickly...) Anyway, what do you mean by a small external flash. I'm using Sea and Sea YS90DX, but I know there are other strobes being used. Let us know what you decide.

Well, I put the cash down last weekend for the WP D800 housing for the Canon S400 and was not dissapointed. I used it on two dives at Whytecliff and had it down to 75 feet with no problems. All I had was the built in flash and a diffuser but with a few minutes of photoshop colour balancing the photos turned out ok. I'll be looking at a strobe next to boost the lighting and get it away from the lens. Any recommendations for a suitable strobe would be greatly appreciated. I've posted a few shots in the members galleries area under magnetite.

Not the greatest shots but not bad for a first attempt I guess. Do any of the smaller strobes have a continous light feature for video?

I have a Sea&Sea 25DX for my Canon S400. Whilst it is OK and certainly adds something, I would recommend that you buy the most powerful strobe you can afford. To my mind the main choice is between the YS90Auto or the Inon D180 (see Gilligan's site and pics). I am planning on trading up to the Inon soon when funds allow.
