Has anyone tried these housings? If so do you have any feedback you could give? How deep did you take it? Any leaks? Were all of the camera functions still usable? Any info you could give me would be appreciated as it is the only housing we have found for a Dimage Z1.

Later, Hawk.

They will work for snorkeling but not for diving. Your camera will not like be exposed to the pressure at depth.

Ikelite will make custom housings! usually for the same cost as other similar sized housings.

I used one a few years back for my old manual SLR (I'm not sure about the new digital ones). I just made sure it was nice and puffed up full of air at the surface and I used it down to 80 feet deep all the time. The controls were operated through a built-in glove. That was my major problem with it, because there wasn't enough room to wear a diving glove on your hand and still fit it in the housing glove. In the tropics that would be no problem, but up here in British Columbia, bare-handing it was painful at times. With a digital camera, the housing probably wouldn't need a glove, because it's easy enough to push buttons through the housing. Another problem is that it has a flat port so the widest lens I could use was a 28mm without distortion. I used it with a 35mm for fish portraits, etc. Also, If I took my hand out of the glove underwater, I wouldn't be able to but it back in (because of the pressure squeezing it). It worked fine for awhile until it started to leak slightly in the "welded" seams (after about 30 dives or so). Making sure it was "blown up" full of air before a dive probably stressed the seams, eventually causing the leak. Basically, it would be fine for the tropics, but I wouldn't put anything expensive in it. These are some pictures I took with my EWA-Marine setup a few years ago. PHOTOS

You'd be braver than I am!!

I haven't used one but have seen three go bluey. :11:

If you are flexible about losing what's inside, then give it a try. If you aren't, you might want to check out some of the Canon A series or Oly Stylus or similar...there are some great prices on them (especially if you pick up the previous model) and housings are around $150ish US.

Most of these "housings" will be ok for snorkeling, for scuba diving I strongly suggest a hard case made for your camera.

Thanks for the input. We allready decided to send it back when it gets here. My wife ordered it for me for Christmas, and I had said something about maybe buying a different camera for diving with. She had to say something at that point. I am glad she did. The thought was great, the product apparently is not. You only have 10 days to send it back.

Thanks again, Hawk.
