I am thinking of selling my Seaquest Pro QD BCD to leisure pro and purchase the Brigade from Scubatoys. It is in perfect condition, exactly the same condition it was in the day I bought it 2.5 months ago. I was just wondering if anyone has ever sold anything to them and if so did they offer you a fair price for your stuff? They emailed me back and said that they would pay for shipping to have it shipped to them and would check it out and test it and make me an offer. If I was not happy with it then they would send it back at their expense. I was hoping to get at least $300 for it. Do you think I would be able to get that amount for it?

Thanks,
Michael

No, I don't think you could get that much. A reasonable expectation would be to consider just how much you'd be willing to pay for that used item yourself and divide that by two. If you want three hundred, I'd recommend selling it yourself through E-bay or perhaps on the 'board.

I just checked Leisure Pro and they sell that BC new for $400. I'd be surprised if they'd offer over $125 for a used unit regardless of condition.

The guys at LP probably paid less than $200 for it from Seaquest.

It's really not much different than a car. You get more by selling it yourself. It's more convenient to trade it in, but you're not going to get nearly as much for it because they need to make money on the deal when they resell it - they're not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts.

I concure and would say that 50 cents on the dollor of current "market" value is a reasonable (or at least common) estimate of "wholesale" value.

You want "retail" used value. You should try the Gear / Equiptment Classifieds here on Scubaboard. I also like Craigslist in my area. My last choice is ebay, but still OK, just have to deal with more flakes.

I'm surprised they even want to buy your used gear without you buying a new one from them.

they say on the website they do this because they have dive shops and instructors that want to buy used gear for rental and training. It makes sense for an independent instructor, anyway. I don't know about a dive shop, could LP get and resell them something used for much less then the shop could get it for anyway? Unless it was pretty old stuff.

Woo hoo! New dive gear! Maybe you'll have it by the time we go to ABWA on March 1st :D
