Equipment Storage

Hello,
I am in the process of moving. We will be living with my mother-in-law for about a month. Our stuff needs to go into storage. Any issues with BC or Wetsuit being in unheated storage for that time? It does get pretty cold.

Cold won't bother, but avoid folding or piling stuff on top.

I doubt it will be a problem. The water temp at depth under a thermocline is only a few degrees above freezing anyway. I'd consider replacing O-Rings on your reg, but a BC and wetsuit should be fine.

Give your BC a good clean inside before you store it, mould is a wonderful thing!

Also, folding wetsuits can cause the material to weaken slightly and lose its thermal capabilities. I would dry stuff off as well, i dont think you would have enough water on things to ice up (if it got that cold) and break things, so the cold probably isnt all that much to worry about - dont know enough about regs and tanks to comment, but the o-ring thing sounds a good idea!!

My buddy has an unheated 10'x11' shed in his back yard we converted to a dive workshop and storage area (It looks a lot like a small LDS inside...). We run a small space heater if we need to work out there for any length of time in the winter.

All of his gear, his wifes gear and most of my gear has been stored there when not in use for about two years or so now with no problems whatsoever.

We just make sure that nothing ever gets put in there that isn't clean and dry first.

In the winter, the regs get brought into the house to warm up the night before any cold water diving.

Good old vinegar makes a wonderful anti-fungal treatment, & you don't even have to wonder about what nasty chemicals with foot-long names might do to you or your goodies.

It depends on where your storing them. Personally I'd find a somewhat warm enviroment. As stated above, folding is not an option with neoprene. It's your equipment, you dive with everything. Since your life might depend on them someday, how do you want to take care of them?????
