Hi all,
I've mostly been a lurker here for a number of years and only a little experience with underwater photography to date. I bought an XZ-1 and matching Olympus housing during a trip a couple of years ago and then added a Nauticam rig with a pair of S-2000 Inon strobes. I only dive occasionally though, so I've only been able to really try it out properly once. Big learning curve!
I use an OM-D E-M5 on land for my photography (mostly ruins / haikyo) and have been considering my options for buying an underwater housing for the camera. After a lot of research however, it seems more cost-effective for me to buy an E-PL5 and the PT-EP10 housing for my underwater photography, as it takes the standard kit lens, 60mm macro and the 9-18mm wide angle. Plus, the Olympus housing is only about $700 new. The cost of a Nauticam housing for the E-M5 is nearly double that without a port. Of course, I will have to buy the E-PL5 too if I go with the PT-EP10, so it'll end up being about $1500 for the camera and housing.
Anyway, my question is related to the Zen WA-100 dome port. From what I've read, it will work on the PT-EP10 housing. What I wish to know however, is whether the dome port will fit the 60mm macro lens. I am aware the Olympus housing comes with a flat port, but apparently macro lenses work well with dome ports too, and naturally for wide angle a flat port won't do. (According to this thread, it does work, but can anyone confirm from experience? Which port should I choose for my E-PL3 housing for using 60mm Macro? One final question. I understand there are two versions of the WA-100 dome port - one for the 9-18 and one for the 7-14. Since I don't own the 9-18 lens, I was thinking it might be better to grab the 7-14 version. However, I want to be sure that other lenses such as the kit lens and 60mm macro lens will not suffer in a larger port. I read in another thread that choosing the wrong port size will adversely affect image quality. Also, just how much bigger is the 7-14 port compared to the 9-18 port? They don't look very much apart in this picture: Zen Underwater Announces Port Support for Olympus OM-D EM-5 Camera
Thanks in advance!
