Epl1 zen dome o-rings

We finally put the zen dome on the epl1 uw housing and found it a a bit cumbersome. The instructions say to remove the o- rings on the port for air travel. I was wondering if anyone knew how necessary this is? Disassembling and reassembling this is not something I look forward to.

Certainly you do not need to do this if you take the red one on the case out... That is what I do...
