Folks,

I'm going through my pool classes for my OW cert., and am having vertigo problems, and want to see ant ENT doctor that knows about scuba.

Can anyone give me a few names of local doctors that understand the scuba issues with the ears?

Thanks,

---Michael

Hi, Michael...

Unless someone here has been to such a doctor and lives in your area, that might be a hard one to research, since experience with dive medicine is not a separate subspecialty area tracked by our academy. However, DAN does run a free referral service for this sort of thing: Divers Alert Network : DAN Medical Center : Physicians

Good luck!

Hi majm6,

1. Ask DAN at (919) 684-2948 (Mon-Fri, 9AM-5PM EST) or https://www.diversalertnetwork.org/myaccount/mscc/emailmedic.asp. Be aware that DAN's specialist referral base can be thin to non-existant in some locations. My guess is they can make a referral in the Denver area, but no guarantees.

2. Contact the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society ( Contact ) and inquire about Certified Diving Medical Examiners in your region. I'm not sure there are any, but it's worth a try.

3. Area hyperbaric facilites also can be a good source of referrals:

- Rocky Mountain Hyperbaric Institute - Home

- Poudre Valley Health System - Colorado (CO) Hospitals, Fort Collins Loveland Greeley

- North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colorado-serving the Northern Colorado communities

4. So can local dive shops:

- Boulder SCUBA Shop | Boulder Dive Shop | Ocean First Divers

- Weaver's Dive & Travel Center - Boulder, Colorado - Premier Scuba Store - Quality Scuba Instruction - Monthly Classes

Mike,

Thanks. I'll call DAN on it and see what I can come up with.

Hi mjm6,

My pleasure.

If you crap out after exhausting all that's been suggested thus far, I have a dive buddy whose an ER doc in your region and I could find out if she has any ideas.

Best of luck.

DocVikingo

Thanks, Knotical.

DAN doesn't have any referrals in the state, so I decided to make an appointment with one that may have some good experience with diving issues, based on a referral at the dive shop. Happens to also be on my providers list, so I'm going to try that for starters.

Hi mgm6, how did it go with the referred doctor? I'm working with a diver who is having issues and would like to see an ENT with dive knowledge. Any help would be great.
