Hello all! My wife and I are planning a last minute dive trip near the end of October and have pretty much narrowed it down to either the Bahamas or Grand Cayman. This will be our 3rd dive trip, first was in PV, the 2nd was Coz, both were about a week long. This trip will be a week as well.

Any recommendations on which one is a better spot, or where to stay/fly into for either? We are really just looking for general info for both spots. We will probably do about 7-10 dives while we are there.

Well, they're rather different places to stay and dive, what are you looking for? I haven't been to the Bahamas yet (planned for next year) but from what I know I would pick Grand Cayman for diving, except for a liveaboard in the Bahamas.

On Grand Cayman, I prefer to stay someplace on the East End and dive out there, or to the north of Seven Mile Beach (Cobalt Coast/Divetech for me) and not stay on SMB which is the famous area where most of the major hotels are.

The Bahamas are a big place, are you talking about Freeport or Nassau or one of the out islands or ...?

Can't speak to the Bahamas, but I love grand cayman. Of course there are more than a few dive operators and hotels, but I would definitely second cobalt coast & Divetech. I've been looking recently myself actually and they're running a pretty good deal now. The meal add on they have is a pretty good deal as well (even cheaper with the special they're doing now) considering stuff is relatively more expensive there. You'll still have to adventure out to town though for a meal or two, just to do it.
