haya guys,
just a quick question, i am a rescue diver but i've always dived on orginised dives with more experenced divers who have all the eqipment like o2. i'm thinking about planning a trip with some divers but i was wondering where i would get a o2 unit from? can you rent them from a dive shop?

Griff

DAN has different sized kits, look at how long it will take for EMS to respond to your dive sites or how long it will take to drive to the closest hospital to choose which one is right.

Find out where you're getting the O2 fills before you buy the darn thing. The regulator on O2 bottles isn't the same as a scuba tank so you probably won't be able to get fills at the LDS. The easiest way for me to get cylinders is through Airgas, but I have to show a captain's license to get it.

I bought an entire trauma kit, including O2 and reg on eBay. Filling it will be the hard part. Fortunately, I am a firefighter/EMT so I get mine filled along with the others from the dept. You could also try a medical supply store.

true...if your fire department does medical calls, they might be filling their own O2 bottles so bring them donuts and ask them to fill yours...I'm fortunate enough to be able to fill both my AL80's at my firehouse and an 02 tank if I had one...

Another option is to take an advanced nitrox course so you can get up to 100% O2 fills in your own scuba safety tank. (Usually taken with a decompression course as well.)

I keep a 71.2 cu ft steel on board with an O2 cleaned regulator system.

It was pretty easy to attach to a breathing mask as well, not shown.

And very clearly label your scuba tank that is filled with 100% as OXYGEN.

Some places will fill an 02 tank with proof of a DAN O2 provider class certificate. Be careful, I'd take the 02 provider course before I'd administer it. There could be a liability issue since it's considered a medical treatment. I know it's BS but it's a consideration these days.
