During Rescue Diver training, this course is part of the curriculum. Is this portion waiverable? I ask because I'm already certified in CPR for adults/children/infants as well as defib trained. It's a requirement at work. Additionally, we get far more first aid/responder training than they'll provide. The real reason I see this as a waste for someone that's already trained is that it's not recognized by the authorities in the field such as American Heart Assoc, AMA, etc. I doubt it is, but thought I'd ask. Working graveyard shift, it's not easy to make scheduled classes so the fewer the better, too!!

If you have certs from other recognized agencies, and you are within the 2 year time limit, you do not have to repeat. EFR is recognized just the same as AHA and Red Cross. Just FYI, EFR received the contract for the Olympics and trained all their personnel.

From the manual .....
"Prior to Knowledge Development Presentation Two and Rescue
Training Session Two, the PADI Rescue Diver course student
diver must successfully complete a sanctioned course in
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR-Primary Care) and basic
first aid (Secondary Care) within the past two years (24 months)."

I would consider an AHA course (initial or refresher) to meet that requirement. You will need to show the instructor proof that one has been completed in the last two years.

You may have to take the first aid part, but should be able to get out of the CPR. However there are some places that are very very picky. Some organizations require American Heart CPR and will not honor Red Cross.

Just wondering - do any of these organizations offer the classes for free? I know I sometimes see basic CPR classes taught at local community centers, but what about EFR and first aid classes, more in-depth?

I've seen free classes offered by fire departments in the past (30 years ago), but not more recently. They all seems to cost money now day. You might want to contact your local fire departments.
