This is not political commentary. This is not candidate bashing, and this is not a place for greiving, gloating or glomming.

Lets talk about the system - Its bad enough my porch has become home to the daily barrage of fliers, handouts and other election detritus. However, I want to mention something that happened 4 times this week that just hacked me off.

I'm on the National DNC (do not call) list. An amazing thing happened when I joined the list - I pretty much got my dinnertime back. The calls just stopped. No more re-fi calls, no more LA times calls, no more ________ calls. Its beautiful. The calls are rare. If you're not on the list, you need to go the the web right now (stop reading this message) and sign your bad-self up on the DNC.

We'll, its been a beautiful thing except for this week. I've recieved calls from the following:

* Julia Louis Dreyfus

* Roy Scheider

* A Baldwin (pick one...I can't remember)

* Some other B list celeb (I can't remember and don't really care)

These calls are in the form of an electronic message. They're all the same - or at least all start the same (only one got played through its intirety, as it went to the machine.) The phone rings, I answer and the positively perky personality opens with a greeting, mentions their name and starts their pitch.

"Hi. I'm Julie Louis Dreyfus, and I know you're really busy, but what I need to say is very important...."

I chime in with "Elaine? Is that you..."

As she blathers on, I discern this is a recorded message and not a personal call from JLD (nothing gets by me) and I immediately hang up.

4 times in the last 2 days this has happened.

FOUR!!!!!!!!!

Memo to Politicians - the DNC list means you too. Do not spam my phone at this time of year with your pre-recorded celebrity stumping.

Thank you.

Uh, Ken,

How do you think they got your number in the first place? Probably from the DNC list :D.

Actually, it doesn't.

Actually, it doesn't.

I know it doesn't specifically cover these types of calls. But it should, and that's why I'm whining.

DNC means DNC.

These calls have been driving me NUTS for the past 5 days. But I have a bonus in addition to the presidential candidate calls - our mayoral candidate calls. A very close race that has turned quite ugly the past few weeks.

We have caller ID and generally let our answering machine pick up any calls that we cannot identify. We have averaged 5-6 calls a day - and these are not short and sweet calls - they go on and on . . . and on.

Our local news ran a short piece about people complaining about the number of calls they have been receiving. Our mayoral candidates both say they have been abiding by the DNC list. Based on my personal experience, I doubt it.

I've got another whine.

I think the Presidency should be a 10 year term. They should each get a decade to serve. Who else is in a job for only 4 years? That's not enough time to get your job done.

And they have to waste so much of their time and our's running again in their last year.
We should vote on the zeros..pun intended.

2000 to 2009..same President. ( although too late for that now) you get the idea.
Our system is so prehistoric!

Disconnect the land line and switch to cell phones. Even the politicians leave those alone. :D

Hey I even got a (recorded) call from "W" himself last night. (You should have heard the earfull I gave him while I had his undivided attention.) :eyebrow:

I have been getting 2-3 calls per night after I get home, some as late as 10pm. Considering I get up at 5am for work, I'd really appreciate if they would at least limit themselves to primetime.

I also am on the National and State DNC lists as well as having an unlisted phone number with anonymous call blocking. Doesn't matter. The lovely politicians that wrote the DNC list legislation left themselves a nice gaping loophole so that it doesn't apply to them. As a matter of fact, they probably are getting our numbers off of it.

Oh well, I just let the answering machine pick up the call and when I hear it is one of them, I just ignore it and let it ramble on. I figure if they're stupid enough to not be able to figure out that I voted (against them) a week ago, they can waste their long-distance time and money talking to my machine. When they're done, I just delete the message. I figure I'm not going to just hit the stop button and hang up on them, saving them money.

Today, we see the ignorance of the masses in action, and we force this system down other peoples throats, nice..........

Gee, Ken, you must not rate. I got calls from Hillary Clinton, and Caroline Kennedy too.

I share your pain. I am also on the DNC list, and have been getting an average of five calls a day from these people.
