El Hierro solo trip

Hi there! I am looking into a dive holiday in Jan / Feb, from The Netherlands. Looking for a destination with a not too long flight time or time difference, and sunny with at least moderate water temperatures. I will be travelling alone. I like to socialise on dive trips / on the boat and on some evenings. Generally going for diving and relaxing, maybe some hiking. El Hierro in the Canaries caught my eye. I read some posts and reports on scuba board already. It looks like a great destination - island, quiet, not too touristy, some restaurants, enough divers around, and what seems like great diving. Has anyone travelled to El Hierro solo on a dive trip? Please let me know your experience!

Hi Diana,

I don't know much about El Hierro but i saw it in the 100 place to dive book. Please keep us posted of the dive shop you chose and the dive spots.

I will be in Lanzarote mid of January and i was wondering what type of suit are you planning to bring, if you have your own gear ofcourse

I dive in Gran Canaria in the winter. Typically, for 2 dives of around 45-50 minutes, I wear a 6mm wetsuit and commonly don't wear a hood. I did 1 day last winter with a 5mm suit and I was a little cold by the end.

I was not solo but El Hierro is amazing, above and below sea level. I would highly recommend you to rend a car to get around!
For diving, keep in mind that the island is really steep and you will have to spend time at the location before getting to your accomodation on the other side! Was diving with green shark at that time, highly recommend, now they have a new management: The Green Shark | PADI 5* diving center | El Hierro - Canary Islands
