I just got my new Edge regulators and had a quick question about the hoses.

How tight should the connection from the swivel to the 2nd stage of the Epic be? I can unscrew the 2nd stage at the swivel by hand. Is this normal? The connection from the hose to the 2nd stage on the octo is tight and does not move at all - which is my second question...

This is my first set of regs and all of the rentals I've ever used had an octo that rotates around the hose but this one is completely stationary. Is that by design or is the hose over tightened? If it's by design, is there a connector that I can use to allow for rotation - I don't need a swivel, just rotation on one axis.

So sorry to hear about your loose hose. No, the hose going to the second stage should not be loose at all, you should not be able to unscrew it by hand. We have found some of these intermittently with this problem and asked our shipping staff to check each of them but clearly yours got missed. To tighten your hose swivel you have a couple of options, you can first send it to us and we will do it for you and send it right back out or with a little DIY skill and care you can do it yourself. To tighten the swivel you will need to pull back the rubber protective swivel boot and the inner protective rubber ring covering the jam nut. You will also need a 17mm and a 11/16 in open ended wrench or adjustable wrenches although the correct sizes are best. If you have low torque, thin wall wrenches you can tighten both the swivel and jam nut in opposing directions simultaneously, otherwise first tighten the jam nu (11/16 part) to hand tightness, then tighten the swivel (17mm) tight to the jam nut. DO NOT over tighten the swivel to the jam nut as the jam nut and barrel can turn inside the case or you can crack the case. Finally check that you cannot unscrew the swivel from the barrel any longer and slide protective boots back into place.

Thanks Jack. Is there any danger in leaving it hand tight and just checking it before every dive? It seems like it may be convenient to unscrew and soak the 2nd stage for cleaning. Also, can you provide any feedback on the octo hose issue?

In my limited experience, if the second stage comes loose under pressure, you will extrude the o-ring, and the dive will be ending real quick. I'm no expert but I wouldn't soak a reg after a dive sans hose either. You'd be putting water in parts that are supposed to remain dry.

All 2nd stages should be securely tightened to the point they cannot be removed at all by hand and I would agree it is better to leave all parts in place for routine soaking/post dive cleaning. It only takes one time forgetting to check the hose tightness and your dive day could end shockingly.
