Hello all, I recently bought a set of regs off ebay

Apeks XTX200 Regulator and Egress and OMS SPG - eBay (item 140533467359 end time Apr-14-11 07:31:32 PDT)
it was supposed to have:
XTX200 second stage
FSR first stage
egress Octo
OMS SPG w/ Miflex hose

when I actually recieved the item it didn't have the XTX200 second stage it had an XTX50. I contacted the guy and he said he made a mistake and will send it right out. of course he disappeared.
anyway, I'm able to get a full refund but was wondering, Ive done alot of reading and it appears that the XTX 50-200 are the same reg with cosmetic diferences. if it breaths the same ,is it worth it to keep it for the 400 i paid? or just get rid of it and keep looking.

As far as I know, Apeks uses the same basic design for all of their main seconds, +/- a gadget or 2. The only difference I can see between the 50 and the 200 second is the front cover. Might as well keep it, but get rid of the octo.

As Zung said there's no practical difference between the 2nd you got and the one you were expecting.
The Egress, although not a regular full size and shape 2nd, is one of the better "hockey puck" style octos and is perfectly adequate for normal recreational diving.....although I too prefer to have a back-up of the same design as my primary.

As far as Ebay goes, stand your guns on getting the refund. You didn't get what you paid for and it sounds as though you won't get it either. I also got screwed on a SPG that was listed as "new", turns out it was not new. However the seller has made it right. I have found that Ebay has more than it's share of scams cooking. As the old saying goes, if it seems too good to be true, it usually is too good to be true. Good luck and safe diving.

Must be devastating to be srewed second hand as I must have made
dozens of fortunate purchases from a different USA eBay as it seems
the the too true to be good to be true, fairytale crew, don't ship dive
gear internationally, but I would ditch a crap purchase, due to karma.

I am pretty hard core when it comes to correct listing. Ebay also allows a partial refund. Offer to keep the reg but ask for $100 refund for screw up. I did that when the seller made two errors. I kept the item but got a partial refund.

Push it if you want but it is only worth the time if the principal bothers you enough.

Other than a few shiny bits on the cover it's an identical reg.

Personally I would just keep it; the internal parts are identical as others have noted. Not worth the effort IMO - but up to you

BTW the reg shown in the photo on eBay is an XTX50

Did he send you the interchangable exhaust vents? They come with two, wide & narrow, as he mentioned in the text from the add (which is just copied from the Apeks site). For your primary, the wide set is best

Totally agree with this. Buying, refurbishing and selling regulators is one of my hobbies. I would keep most of the stuff I fix up, but I have to make room in my closet and budget somehow. Please get a refund or partial refund if for no other reason than to help keep things honest.

Please update us with your findings.

So far I already bought 2 sets xtx 200 and 2 sets of xtx 200 tungsten and in all those purchases and with how apeks are marketing these products, whenever you purchase a set of xtx 200s, they usually come with a free xtx 40 octopus and as tortuga68 mentioned, an interchangeable exhaust vent. Totally agree that the internal design and composition of an xtx 50 and an xtx 200 are the same, save for the front cover, so its worth keeping anyhow.
