Hi there... I hope that everyone sees this even though it is posted under preservation. I just found a great website Earthdive.com.

This site asks diver all over the world to record your dive notes on the environment at this site, where they can be compiled with other dive reports and help us to keep track of what is going on in our waters! It is free to join and just takes minutes for us to record what we observe while doing our favorite activity. They also request dive centers and organizations to get involved. Please take moment to check it out.

Interesting site. The website's rather intense, and quite cluttered. The global dive log doesn't sound like such a bad idea, but I think it needs a lot more work. And the paid subscription to access full member services is going to keep a lot of folks away. It also seems to me that entering false or biased data is easily accomplished. As the site heavily promotes dive centers/resorts, those operators can likely write up exaggerated reports to bolster their image.

I like the setup from REEF (http://www.reef.org/index.shtmlhas). But they've been around much longer and have heavy sponsorship from famous divers and biologists. I believe their survey protocols have now been approved by the AGRRA folks too.

Thanks for the info... i will check that one out too. I agree it needs some help.. and the paid subscription thing... blah... but I always just hope that I can do my .02 and input my info... and then whatever happens happens, but at least I can sleep at night knowing that I've tried to contribute what I can. :)
