I am recovering from an ear baratrauma which is getting better but hasn't been fun. I've had several problems with my ears after diving even though I think I've been very careful clearing (except for this time - I know where I messed up). My Dr. has suggested a decongestant before I dive and even a light dose of prednisone before and after I dive in the future. I've read different opinions about the pro ear type masks. I'm willing to spend the dollars if it would decrease the chance of barotrauma. Anyone have any experience with this type of mask and whether it woulkd help???? Thanks.

I own a Proear 2000!!
I like it but I have a lot of hair so it causes the ear cups to leak a little!
I didn't use it three days ago and my ears were feeling a little wacky from the diving.
I only have the problem in quarry or cold water.
It is much better with it than with out it.
I take a 12 hour Sinus and Allergy pill(Advil or Tyenol, Sudafed) and I use a 12 hour nose spray with extra moisture like Adfrin and
I never have had any trouble in now 100 dives.
It was only my Open water checkout dives.
Ebay is where I got mine
REmember though it has to have both straps(ear cup one and regular). I changed mine out with slap sticks.
It is a ***** during rescue training though. Leave it on once you get it good except to flood it to get rid of fog!!
PM me if you have any questions or ask them here!!
Sincerely

Make sure if you do buy one BUY THE HOOD!!
worst mistake I made. Also you can try Proplugs

I have one but only use it when I get ear infections. It's not comfortable at all but it'll get you through a trip if you get an infection. There's no way I'd use it as my primary mask. I wouldn't dive if I had to.

HOw long have you been using the Proplugs? Any problems or recommendations? Have you found it easier to equialise?

I have had a perforated ear for many years - when it heals the scar is paper thin, it's an old welding accident. When I started diving it perforated twice on the open water dives. They were about 18 months apart, the second time I got water in the middle ear and ascended with the world in a spin, so I stopped and thought that was it. Anyway when my wife, brother and his girlfriend decided to go to Oz the barrier reef seemed just two good to miss, they all dive. That's when I found ProEar, it's absolutely superb - I dive now without any trouble at all - the reef was excellent.

Proplugs have a miniscule hole to allow pressure changes. Water does get in but only a tiny amount if fitted and placed well. They neither hinder nor help equalization for me, just keep cold water out of my ears. They seem effective for lowering the risk of outer ear infection and surfers ear. I've been using them pretty continuously for 4 years now both in cold water and the tropics. The biggest problem is keeping track of the little beggers.

The proplugs don't want to stay in and I used the Proear as my primary mask except during Rescue training becuase it is hard for students to get it off without ripping my hair and face and ears.
Sorry it took so long for me to reply I have had reoccuring computer problems
