I have a Sherwood Profile dive computer and a Sherwood Oasis Regulator. Can I use these with Nitrox mixtures below EANx40?

Some other divers have told me that even though Sherwood doesn't say anything about it that it will be ok to use the gear with Nitrox.

A little help on this would be appreciated, because I need to know if I am buying more gear.

Thanks, ScubaScottland

I don't know about the computer - can you set it for O2 % in Nitrox mode?
(edit: I just did a quick check....this appears to be an air computer that doesn't have Nitrox mode. It's not suitable for Nitrox AFAICS.)

Regulator should be fine - regs only need to be O2 clean (with special O-rings etc) for mixes above 40%.

if the computer does not natively support Nitrox then all it is really good for is a bottom timer and depth gauge; or what it was made for "AIR" diving. Just like to add, if you asking this question you need to do your Nitrox training or if you have, you need to ask for you money back and do it again. please take this as a saftey note and not a personal dig.

Not necessarily his fault. My most common class is nitrox. I just got a PowerPoint presentation from a buddy at another shop. In it, there is a slide which talks all about the importance of having "nitrox compatible gear" for mixes under 40%. Basically a ploy to get students to buy new gear. There is even a joke in their shop about selling customers the "nitrox compatible snorkel and mask."

Maybe he hasn't taken the class yet and just wants to see what kind of hit his wallet will take. I was asking similar questions a year before I even dove nitrox.

I'm not familiar with that computer but if it's fairly new, it should have Nitrox settings. Maybe you can download the owner's manual from Sherwood's website if you don't have one.

If it ain't Nitrox compatible then don't dive Nitrox with it. It's not because you are necessarily going to get into trouble. You are simply wasting money because the computer is going to be set as an air dive. It has no way of knowing you are diving with nitrox unless it is set for Nitrox and you enter in your EAN...Otherwise the computer is going to set your bottom time based on 21%...

You can get into trouble diving nitrox on an air computer if you don't watch your depth carefully because the computer won't know to give alarms. Not that you should be relying on a computer for this...
