I am currently looking into the Dyron 67 mm Lens adaptor for the Canon DC 38 Housing (for the S95). Wondering if anyone has any experience of the adaptor. Firstly how 'successful' with wide angle lens (Dyron 20mm specifically) and secondly, does it still allow the flash diffuser plate to bit into place? I will be using external flash but still plan to simply mount the fibre optic on the flash diffuser plate.
Thanks in anticipation.

I'd suggest the dyron 15mm, you can see test results here:
dyron 15mm bluewater photo - Google Search

results with the Canon housing were the same as with the ike housing. not sure about the flash diffuser plate, sorry.

The diffuser plate could go behind the adapter. I would suggest not using it for the fiber optic cord for two reasons: You need to block the internal strobe, and it's not rugged enough. A velcro or 3M Dual Lock strip is fine for mounting over the flash on the housing, and will block the light.

I made my own adapter from step rings, but the Dyron seems quick and easy.

Thanks - agree that the diffuser plate is quite flimsy....I currently have an Inon fibre optic cable that has two small thumbscrew clamps that clamp easily onto the Olympus flash diffuser (which in contrast is very ruggedly built) and was hoping to simply do the same. The Inon 'clearwater' system involves a film which goes over the camera's internal strobe to block out all visible light - so that is no problem. Just wondering how you velcro the fibre optic in place...Wouldn't the velcro tape block that internal strobe light from reaching the fibre optic...? Just don't quite get it I'm afraid.....Sorry!

You simply need the end of the fiber optic cable to be able to be hit with light from the internal flash. Placing it under the velcro, or placing it through a tiny hole in the velcro will do the job.

Reference Reef Photo & Video Support Center - KnowledgeBase - Installing '3M Dual Lock' Style Fiber Optic Sync Cables for a better explanation. Steps 1-4 are the answer to your question. (Steps 5-10 are just for the attachment of the shade which is a poor design. Blackout tape would be a better solution)

Very cool. Thanks for both approaches - aren't fibre optics great? Its not rocket science adapting them to any situation . When I think that I started underwater photography initially with an old bulb flash that hardly worked for 2 shots consecutively (many years ago); and then struggled with several Nikonos cords that fired intermittently....Fibre optic links are so much more reliable and simple.

Actually - I've found yet another alternative, but there is very little information on the Deeproof 67 mm Canon Lens adaptor...see Deeproof M67 Mount Base DC28/34 for Canon WP-DC28 / WP-DC34 #RM67-DC28/34 . This is aluminium and involves a threaded 67 mm swing away ring adaptor. Would be handy I guess but I wonder if it would support the weight of a wide angle lens? Certainly would be great with macro. At $74.95 it it good value, but the Inon is clearly more robust (and weighty).

I would be interested in hearing opinions of this one, too. I won't use WA lenses with my WP-DC34, so only 67 mm adapter + macro lens. This Deeproof adapter would mean, that I wouldn't have to screw/unscrew the lens. I was also wondering, if it will stay on as there are no screws to hold it in place..

Actually - if you look closely....I reckon there are little grub screws centrally located on both vertical and horizontal surfaces of the base....But overall it just looks pretty lightweight - this might be a blessing...or a curse. Agree that it would be brilliant for macro, but the leverage from a wide angle lens would be a worry. I'm probably getting the Dyron 20 mm wide angle lens which is pretty lightweight. but I would still worry about it dangling on that frame. It is a clever design the way the lens swings across, but it looks way too light in construction for wide angle lenses.
