Just wanted to get some stories about some of the dumbest things you have seen diving. Here's mine
My girlfriend and I did some boat diving in Florida 2 years ago. There were 10 divers on board including ourselves. The boat ride was about 35 minutes to the first site. All divers on board were AOW trained or higher. During the ride everyone talked about all the experience they had. The DM did his briefing and my GF and I were the only ones who actually paid attention while everyone else was setting up and checking their gear. When we got to the site it was a mad dash to get in the water (except for us). The boat captain did his buddy check before everyone jumped in, The first 2 in the water both forgot their weight belts, The 3rd person didn't have their inflator hose connected, 4th and 5th were OK, the 6th & 7th didn't have their air on, and the 8th person had a loose tank, 9 and 10 (us) were fine.

That's hard to beat. Guess you guys got the dive site to yourselves for your dive while the rest of 'em fixed themselves up. LOL

My first dive, Im on the swim deck ready to do the giant stride when the DM checked my air. I felt him messing with my tank and turned my head to see what he was doing. No one told me that they make sure your air is on and I thought he was F'ing with me. I turned and was about to pop him in the nose (imagine a 6'4" almost 300lb guy whos stressed about jumping in the ocean and sucking air out of an aluminum can strapped to his back grabbing you by the collar) when he said he was just double checking... I appologised and then proceded with my giant stride. Oops sorry.

In Cozumel, diving on the C-53 wreck. Was on the bow and noticed a guy swimming nearby with only a mask, weight belt and his tank and regulator under his arm. :scubadive

Quite a common sight when people are doing/training penetrations in narrow spaces - like wrecks.

I had four Canadian customers in Hawaii. All good friends - one of them an instructor. I briefed the dive - we were tied off to a wreck in 90'. Trailing out, my stern was hanging in 135' of sand. I did the briefing, stressing to backroll in and swim to the bow, follow the line to the buoy, and descend.
I watched them all backroll in and follow the instructor straight down the stern - kinda skipping the swimming to the bow and following the line to the wreck buoy part.
So I grabbed a tank, mask and fins and hopped in after them. The water was murky too, so I had to follow their bubble stream. I caught them on the bottom and signaled an ascent.
Of course we were a quarter-mile from the tethered boat, so I just swam back, unhooked the boat, picked them up, retied off, and sent them back in.
Amazingly, this time they swam to the bow and followed the line.

I did another over-the-sider once when a customer misunderstood something and accidently threw my expensive aluminum Fortress anchor over the side in 120'. Tank, fins and mask and over the side after that baby. I got it too!

This must be some type of fad diving. I saw the same thing off the coast of Roatan a couple of years ago. When I asked him " just what the h*ll are you thinking" :krach: . He said he had a sun burn and did not want to miss a dive. Trust me this guy was not skilled enough to be a wreck diver.

We have an ethnic group that comes to RI in masses on ocassion. And one time they all went in together clammering on top of each other with tanks clanging loudly.

One about me

I was preparing for a dive and a tourist wanted to take my picture before going in. I got all my equipment on and posed for the picture. I made my entry and forgot that I left my fins at the car when I propelled my feet and nothing happened. Ou well happens to the best of us.
