Hi all,

We were considering heading to Monterey the weekend of June 8/9 to try diving cold water for the first time. We would be going to Breakwater. I recently found out that DUI is holding a dry-suit demo that weekend. We were concerned that the Breakwater would turn into a mob scene that weekend, whereas we'd prefer the location to be at least a little manageable. For any of you that have been to these demo days, what did you think of the spot where they held the demos at that time? Did it get multiple times more crowded than usual or were things mostly confined to the tents?

Thanks

I can't speak to Monterey but they do attract divers! To what extent they canibalize the normal group is anyone's guess but they will pull divers fomr a big radius, they can only do so many of these. The actual event is quite contained with tents, the truck and cookout area. Divers will claim space outside the DUI footprint to manage their own gear.

I would have to say that is the venue normally borders on crowded then this may congest it. The events are within reason rain or shine and it could be a down day for general activity.... wait, this is southern California!

If you are not already diving dry I'll encourage you to go as a participant. It's a great way to get some first hand observations regarding what may be a big future investment.

Pete

I went to my local DUI Demo Day yesterday. Everything was well organized, and well worth it! The DUI staff kept saying how there a lot more people than expected. On their site it stated Sundays are less crowded than Saturdays. I met the founder Mr. Long, who is a great person and active in the diving community... Just another reason to support DUI.

Go for it!!!

DUI always does a good job managing their DEMO days. After years of putting on dry suit demo's, they have got it down. Worth a trip.

I went to the last two DUI demo days at Casino Point, Catalina. There was more activity than usual at the entry but not terribly so and once underwater it was no more crowded than usual. I am not familiar with the site you mention but note that DUI generally limits the diver depth to 40' and dives are usually only 20 - 30 minutes.

Find the right DUI instructor and you can go deeper. I went down to sixty feet last weekend, and with plans to go deeper. It's up to the instructor.
