Ive been told you need special bands...Harpbands I think. I have a black diamond and it really is not appropriate for doubles, especially heavy steels.

One of my students went in the navy as a diver. He told me later that they did some segments of their training with doubles mounted on Black Diamonds. Seaquest sells the necessary adapter.

I dive a Black Diamond for singles and really like it. However, the owner's manual does have a warning regarding some doubles set-ups.

Here is the owner's manual:
http://www.aqualung.com/technical_library/black_diamond_manual.pdf

See page 8
"Additionally, the structure of the back pack will not support the weight of an oversized double cylinder set up. The BC may only be used with standard aluminum (maximum 80 cf/10 litre) or steel (maximum 100 cf, 3,500 psi) tanks. High volume, low pressure steel tanks can be especially hazardous when worn as doubles, due to their weight and buoyancy characteristics."

Why not do what the majority of technical divers do and get a backplate and wing?

Thanks - As a former Navy person I know the Navy does things right

Just because they do it in THEIR diving does not mean it is appropriate for YOUR diving. Navy Divers do most of their diving in hard-hats with surface supply and a single tank on their back for bailout while walking along the bottom. That doesn't work so well in recreational diving.

I'd personally tell you that, if you are interested in doubles, take an intro-to-tech or similar course with an instructor that has equipment you can borrow, he has the right stuff for the job.

Peace,
Greg
