Advice sought: I've been diving with an Inon D2000/ULCS digital tray/Canon S50. My camera recently bit the dust after I overlooked what looked like some cat hair on my O-ring, and developed a slow leak. (I've since pressure tested the housing, empty, on a dive, and will probably offer it for sale in the near future, PM me if you're interested). Now, I'm thinking of moving to an S70. My wife, who has a Canon housing for her S70, is interested in a strobe, so I've thought about getting another D2000 for her, with the added benefit that if we wanted, we could combine forces and rig a dual strobe setup on occasion.

What I'm looking for is advice on how to rig a double strobe tray for the S70 in the WP-DC40 housing. I know that there is an extension plate that can be screwed onto the ULCS digital tray to add a second handle or strobe mount (AD-3816) but are there other single-piece double trays that will work with ULCS arms AND the Canon housing? Ikelite's double arm digital tray is advertised for Oly's only. I like the idea of a single piece tray for strength. I also like the idea of the strobes being, at baseline, at the same height relative to each other (the ULCS digital tray extension is about an inch lower than the contralateral side).

If anyone is running a dual strobe rig with a stock canon housing, I'd love to see how you're doing it. I'm mainly thinking green-water macro stuff here in northern California, but I'd love to see your four-foot-long-arm rigs as well.

Thanks,

Good to see another S70/ D-2000 user around here...

I only have a single strobe setup but when I was talking about various setups with my local dive shop when I purchased my strobe + base + arms, they said you would have to purchase a second Inon grip to have a dual strobe setup with the Canon S70 housing. Alternative is to use a ULCS tray but the catch here is that the Canon housing will only be attached at 1 pt so there is a slight chance that the housing may swivel. Maybe take the housing in to a shop that sells ULCS stuff and try it and see how sturdy it is (actually now I kind of kick myself for not trying as I find the ULCS base/ grip setup more versatile (also easier to attach say a torch to the 2nd ULCS grip)

the dual inon grip setup would look like this picture from Inon Japan's website.

Thanks Pakman. It looks like Ikelite's dual handle trays are, at least for now, incompatible with the Canon WP-DC40. The Inon setup relies on overlapping left and right hand grips, and so like the ULCS tray, results in asymmetric height of the strobes, if only by a little. I have an Ikelight video housing and like their handles more than my ULCS grip, but they are a bit heavy. I think I will probably go with a bolt-on extension handle with my ULCS tray. Ikelite does have a single handle tray that fits the Canon, and if I were buying a new tray for a single strobe, I would consider it as well.
