tstonedvr and/or Bob,

Can you compare the new Torus to the LCD wing? (I'm pretty sure Bob frequently comments on the DSS wings, so I'm assuming that at least he can compare them directly)

Thanks,
Theatis

I'm also curious about this. In particular, I'd like a see pics of the LCD 30 next to the Torus 26, inflated, deflated, front and side views. Also, how do the new Torus single wings fold up when sucked completely dry? How easily does the material fold compared to other wings?

Floater, there really isn't a huge difference between the LCD 30 and Torus 26 in any of the views you want. The Torus is a little slimmer over all, ~ 1/2" in width on each side.

The overall lenght is very similar, with in ~1"

Simple physics dictates this. The difference in displacement between the Torus 26 and LCD 30 is 4 lbs. The volume of air required to displace 4 lbs of water is ~110 cu inchs, or about the volume of a large grapefruit.

Once single wing design started to use the very narrow center panel design DSS first introduced about 3 years ago, the gains in reduced profile from using a donut shape are pretty small.

Bottom Line, if you need x lift, you will have to have a certain volume. There are limits to where it's possible to "hide" this volume. In my opinion we are pretty close to the ideal shape now.

Regarding the materials; We us the same Urethane coated ballisitic nylon on the Torus that we used thoughout all our wings. The new 22 mil bladder material is heavier, and is a bit bulkier when rolling up a wing. The absence of a zipper allow packing the Torus wings pretty small.

Tobin

Tobin's comments pretty much answer Floater's questions. Just to clarify, when i posed the question, i was thinking more in terms of a brief in-water "review" comparison of the two wings.

I can only speculate as I have dove the 26lb Torus only...but dive wise I would say the donut and the LCD have to be very similar and I debated between the two...what swung me to the 26 was...I didn't need 30lb's of lift, the 26 is a tad bit smaller in profile (I'm big on low drag/profile)and I already have a 20lb wing but it has a wider profile and is made of much thinner material.....you can't go wrong with any of Tobin's wings....
