Wicking fabrics, like Polartec and polypropylene, can be purchased at retail fabric stores and online dealers.

I've had a similar idea ever since I picked up several yards of 300 weight Polartec at a yard sale! (Paid about a dollar a yard!)

Cabela's Polartec and polypropylene outdoor garments are relatively inexpensive, so I've used them for years, but a custom garment, like an extra-thick custom Polartec vest, would be real nice, if I ever get around to it!

Sounds like an interesting project! Keep us informed.
