I never thought much about these drying trees until a friend thought they were a good idea. They are made from ¾" PVC plumbing. One is a rigid stay-at-home while the other breaks down for boat trips and local travel. You can probably tell all you need to know from photos.
I found those extra-long posts work better for boots than short ones. It also works better if you put Nylon lined gear high on the tree since molded rubber parts dry faster. You don't want gear dripping on stuff lower on the tree that dries slower.
You can add strength by slipping a piece of conduit smeared with construction adhesive down the center of a rigid version. I store gear on the trees out of sunlight and never grew a fungus farm.
