Looking to make or purchase a drying rack that I can place on my balcony for just my equipment. My biggest concern is that the PVC used in alot of these DIY examples will bend under the weight of my wet suit and BCD. I was interested in the Scuba Buddy,

but am not interested in spending $200. Any suggestions?

Gee for $150, I can build you a nice drying rack! (shipping extra of course) :D

go to the DIY section of the board. THere are plenty of examples with lots of help on building one. PVC is plenty cheap, and if built properly, plenty strong enough to hold up your wet gear.

Using 3" PVC pipe I have built a rack that will support my suit,
fins, masks, lift bags, spool, reel, backplate, wing, slate, etc.

if you search the archives you should be able to find some old threads about garment racks from Target (you know, that famous french store). They sell a nice little chrome unit on wheels that several people have purchased. It costs about $50. I bought two at Christmas time for my buddy and myself.

My buddy loves his, mine has not yet been assembled. (too much crap in the garage - no room!)

NOTE: there are more than one model, so you need to select the right one. I will try to remember to look at the box at home.

Some of the old threads include photos.

Just a lower cost option,

Or, instead of PVC for the top, you can use a shower curtain pole. I have a shower curtain pole down the center of my bathtub (at about six and a half feet) and it's just high enough to hang wetsuits and lets me hang dry whatever I want and it drips into the tub.
I get a lot of sand in my tub sometimes but my patio in my apartment isn't really good for anything that doesn't want to get dirty.

$29.95 bought a pool towel rack form Pinch A Penny Pool supply. The patio table and chairs do the rest. :)
