My wife and I are looking at a vacation to La Romana DR area in November (either that or Coz..) Been tooling around the boards here for weeks and figured La Romana and Bayahibe (?) area are best for diving. We really enjoy staying close to some good shoring diving, preferably with good house reef. Not really into rough seas and long rides on small boats. (although I have "the patch" now so hopefully that will help my stupid sea sickness I seemed to have developed during SI's)

We like nice beaches and relaxing, enjoying local culture, as much as diving so all-inclusive is fine or smaller boutique type places are nice as well.

Any suggestions on places to stay with on-site or affiliate dive shop? Iberostar? We usually like to rent a car also and enjoy some site seeing... any "tips" on that in DR? Safe?

Thanks a lot for any help, it truly is appreciated.

We have nice resorts here in Bayahibe area, the popular one is called Dreams La Romana, just 5 minute beach walk from Bayahibe village. (I don't know why it's called La Romana if the city of La Romana is about 25 minutes drive from here). More resorts are located in Dominicus, about 5 minutes from Bayahibe, all of them are great, our clients liked Oasis Canoa the best so far. Look at the little map of all the resorts in our area here

There are nice reef dives around, but no shore dives. Some of the great dive sites are only 5 minute boat ride, and on our south side of the island the water is usually very calm. The dive shops here don't rent tanks and weights (I am guessing you will need weights as well) like it is in USA or Canada.
